Steadycup from Steadyco – the REAL Trainer Cup
You’re ready to wean baby off the bottle, but with so much controversy
surrounding spouted cups and dental health, what options do you have?
The Steadycup is a new open-topped cup with a wide steady base and
small handle designed especially for children aged 1 to 4 and a half,
which encourages healthy infant feeding habits. Its open-top
style reduces the frequency and length of time that liquids are in
contact with the teeth, plus the tiny handle boosts dexterity in
toddlers and the wide base design increases confidence by preventing
spills.
Approved by the British Dental Health Foundation, the Steadycup was
actually developed by Claire Clare, a nurse and mother of two, who
wanted a mouth-friendly, toddler-proof cup for her own children to
avoid the oral problems associated with prolonged use of bottles and
spouted cups. Having found nothing available, she designed the
Steadycup herself and never looked back!
Children are always eager to progress from what is perceived as a
‘baby’ item to a ‘big boy’ or ‘big girl’ item. The Steadycup encourages
this social development whilst avoiding the spills and breakages that
can damage self-confidence when children try and progress too quickly
onto adult cups and glasses. It also avoids the dental problems
that can be caused by prolonged use of traditional spouted cups.
The Steadycup has also been lauded as helping in the fight against the
increasingly poor nutrition seen in toddlers who over-use lidded,
spouted cups. These ‘sippy-cups’ encourage perpetual grazing throughout
the day which leaves children permanently full of liquid and, as a
result, not hungry at meal times. This lack of dietary intake presents
itself most commonly through iron deficiency – a growing problem in
infants.
Overall the Steadycup encourages good feeding habits in children and
encourages toddlers to learn skills that change them from big babies
into little people!
